Here’s a quick reminder of the rulesBoth "mustn't" and "don’t have to" are related to obligation, but they have opposite meanings.

  • Mustn't: Expresses prohibition. It means something is NOT allowed. Example: "You mustn’t smoke here." (Smoking is forbidden.)

  • Don’t have to: Expresses lack of obligation. It means something is optional. Example: "You don’t have to attend the meeting." (It’s your choice.)
