Migliora il tuo inglese oggi - Business English For Italian Professionals
Hi there,
I hope you’ve had a great week.
Welcome back to The English Breakfast—the newsletter for Italian professionals who want to feel more confident using English at work.
I have some great news to share with you that I’m really excited about so grab a cup of tea and let’s get started! ☕️
How to understand native speakers
Do you know some English but when you hear native speakers it sounds like they’re speaking another language!?
Maybe you’ve tried watching TV series but it all sounds too fast, or you can only understand half of what your international colleague says at work.
Don’t worry - it’s not your fault.
The truth is, English speakers don’t speak word by word—they connect sounds, drop parts of words, and speak fast.
But they do follow a series of pronunciation rules. And if you know these rules, you’ll start to understand a lot more.
That’s exactly why I created Understand English Now—a step-by-step course to help you finally understand what native speakers are really saying.
Feel confident in real conversations.
Understand TV series and films without subtitles.
45 lessons to improve your listening skills step by step.

I can’t wait to see you there 😃
All right, let’s change topic…
If you want to speak English well, you need to know a lot of words. But here’s the good news: one of the easiest (and most enjoyable!) ways to grow your vocabulary isn’t memorising endless lists—it’s reading.
Every time you read an article, story, or even a short post, you’re exposing yourself to new words naturally. That means you learn not only what the words mean, but also how they’re really used in sentences.
Tips to make reading work for your vocabulary
Choose the right level – Choose texts that interest and challenge you, if you need to look up every single word, look for something easier.
Notice patterns – Pay attention to words that often go together, like make a decision or strong coffee.
Use context clues – Don’t rush to the dictionary. First, try to guess the meaning from the sentence, then check.
Active review – Write down 3–5 useful new words after reading. Then challenge yourself to use them that day!
I found a great site this week that I think you’ll find useful: Plain English.
It posts real news articles written in plain English, and every article also comes with audio so you can listen while you read. This is a great way to combine vocabulary, reading, and listening practice all at once.
Try it with their article “Remote Work Wars”.
Your task:
📖 Read the article quickly to understand the general topic.
📝 Then, pick out 5 useful expressions you could see yourself using in your own work context.
🎧️ Listen to the audio to check your pronunciation.
