The English Breakfast
Well, hello there and welcome back to The English Breakfast. Your weekly collection of business English tips and tricks to make you look awesome in the office next week.
Prima di iniziare volevo dare un grande benvenuto a tutti i nuovi iscritti. Ho visto che siete in tanti questa settimana, e quindi volevo provare a fare qualcosa di leggermente diverso dal solito, ovvero…provo un nuovo format.

Ho diviso quest’edizione in tre parti:
prima, una attività di livello elementary/base
un’altra di livello intermedio
e infine un’attività di livello avanzato
Prova a completare le attività che più ti spirano e che ti sembrano più adatte per te.
Fammi sapere poi cosa ne pensi di questa nuova selezione di attività di livello misto e se hai trovato qualcosa per te.
All right, let’s go!
Quelle piccole parole fastidiose…
Vocabulary 🔤 - Level: Elementary
Esiste un gruppo particolare di parole fondamentali e comunissime in inglesi che danno sempre problemi a chi è alle prime armi con la lingua (e anche ai livelli più alti a dire il vero!).
Sto parlando dei subject pronouns, object pronouns e possessivi. Facciamo un piccolo ripasso…
Subject pronouns
Questi pronomi vengono usati davanti ad un verbo per descrivere il soggetto della frase.
I love English ,
You love English
He loves English
She loves English
It loves English
We love English
They love English
Object pronouns
Questi pronomi vengono usati dopo un verbo per descrivere l’oggetto della frase.
Give the cake to me
I’ll give the cake to you
Give it to him
Give it to her
Keep it
Give it to us
Give it to them
Possessive adjectives
Questi aggettivi vengono usati prima di un oggetto per descrivere a chi possiede.
It’s my office
It’s your office
It’s his office
It’s her office
Everything’s in its place
It’s our office
It’s their office
Possessive pronomi
Questi pronomi invece sono molto simili agli aggettivi che abbiamo appena visto, ma vengono usati quando non c’è bisogno di ripetere l’oggetto. Diciamo semplicemente…
It’s mine
It’s yours
It’s his
It’s hers
L’equivalente forma per “it” non esiste 🤷♂️
It’s ours
It’s theirs
Let’s practice 🎲
Mettiti alla prova con questo quiz interattivo. Come funziona? Clicca su una domanda, decidi quale parola manca tra i subject pronouns, object pronouns e possessives poi clicca su “Check 🔍️ “ per controllare la risposta.
Riesci a beccare tutt’e 14? Ma ceeerto! 💪
Let’s get on with it!
Vocabulary 🔤 - Level: Intermediate
If you’ve spent any time at all learning English, you’ll have noticed that the word get is everywhere.
It has lots of different meanings depending on the context, but today we’re going to focus on some common examples of phrasal verbs that use the word get.
But of course, phrasal verbs like get up, get on, get off, are far too easy for you, so I’ve chosen a collection of phrasal verbs that are a little bit more difficult 😉
Click on the worksheet below and try to match the phrases 1-10 on the left with the phrases a-j on the right to create full and meaningful sentences.
Off you go, get on with it!
Let’s chat 💬
Now it’s time to do a bit of practice. Choose at least 3 of the questions below and reply to this email with your answers, and I’ll correct them for you. Let’s go!
How do you usually get by when life throws you curveballs?
Have you ever experienced an embarrassing moment? Of course you have! Did you get over it or does it still haunt you?
What's your secret to getting away from the chaos and finding your zen?
How would you get rid of an unwanted houseguest?
Does remote working let you get away with anything you wouldn’t be able to do in the office?
What's your best strategy for 'getting out of a situation'? (like an unwanted invitation or meeting you don’t want to attend!)
Do you find it easy to get on with new people, or does it take a while for you to warm up to them?
So, have you gotten into any new hobbies lately?
What mischief did you get up to last weekend? Anything wild and adventurous?
Do you always have to correct your mistakes?
Listening 🎧️ - Level: Advanced
First of all, everyone makes mistakes, especially while speaking in a foreign language. But is it always a problem if you make a mistake? And should you always interrupt the conversation to correct yourself?
Watch the following video and try to understand the answer to these questions:
What is a type 1 mistake?
What is a type 2 mistake?
Should a type 1 mistake be corrected immediately?
All right, that’s it. Have a great week and I’ll see you next time.
Ciao for now,
Dan
