Do you think English is too hard?
Remember, no one speaks English perfectly. Not even native speakers! 😆
The English Workout 💪
Hi English learners! 👋
Welcome back to The English Workout by ChatBubble. The weekly newsletter that helps intermediate and advanced learners, like you, achieve English fluency 💌
There’s no denying that learning English is hard. I get it. But whatever your current level is, I just wanted to remind you that sometimes even native speakers have a hard time!
Sit back, relax and enjoy this collection of Brits, Americans and Aussies (=Australians) that will hopefully remind you of three things…
Everyone makes mistakes
No one knows every single word in English
Perfect English doesn’t really exist!
Americans try to guess British slang
How many of these British slang words did you know? See if you can guess the correct definitions and if you can beat the Americans. 😜
Write - Wrote - Wroted??! ☠️
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Everyone hates irregular verbs. They even cause trouble for native speakers sometimes!
Check out James Hetfield of Metallica as he tries to navigate the past simple and past participle of the verb write.
Does he get it right in the end? 🎸
Are you talking to me?
If you didn’t know already, English is, of course, a global language. It has a wide range of accents and varieties, including Received Pronunciation (think of the Queen’s accent) as well as Caribbean or Indian English, each valid, reflecting a depth of cultures that is so extensive…that we often can’t understand each other. 😂
If you ever find yourself struggling to understand a native English speaker, remember the reason might be simply be that they have an accent you haven’t heard enough of yet. It happens to everyone.
Check out these Americans and Australians trying to understand a very normal Scottish accent (from Glasgow.)
Can you understand him? 😄
If you want to improve your knowledge of global English accents, check out this accent training game. Can you guess them all? 🎲
