The English Breakfast

Hi there,

Welcome back to The English Breakfast — the newsletter for Italian professionals who want to feel more confident in English at work.

Thanks to everyone who tried last week’s phrasal verbs challenge and sent me feedback — it was a little experiment on my side.

Turns out you really love phrasal verbs… who would’ve thought? 😂

So, without further ado, here’s this week’s challenge:

Fantastic Phrasal Verbs 2

Can you get 10/10? Go on — give it a go.

Please do me a small favour 🙏
At the end of the quiz, answer the feedback question and tell me what you think.

If you like it, I’ll do one every week.
If you love it, I may even turn this into a short daily practice.

This tiny mistake instantly gives you away in English.

You’re on time… until you’re not. And suddenly you need to say “scusa il ritardo.”

Sounds simple, right?

Yet it’s a really common mistake I hear — even from advanced speakers.

Watch this week’s video and see if you would’ve said the right thing 👀

The Winter Olympics

As I’m sure you’re aware, the 2026 Milano–Cortina Winter Olympics have just kicked off here in Italy.

Whether you’re a fan of this chilly sporting spectacle or you’re busy hating the fact that Milan is basically inaccessible for the foreseeable future, I think we can all agree on one thing:

seeing our unexpected torchbearer, Snoop Dogg, casually popping into a McDonald’s in Gallarate is already a highlight that’ll be hard to beat.

Anyway, let’s see how many of the 16 Winter Olympic sports you can name… in English.

Will you be taking home the gold? 🥇

Check out the quiz and find out!

All right, that’s it for this week’s edition.

Have a great week and I’ll see you next time.

All the best,

Dan
