OK, let’s go…
Why is English so difficult to understand?
If you’ve been learning English for a while, you’ve probably noticed that when you sit down to watch a film in English or you hear mother-tongue speakers in conversation, the pronunciation of words and phrases that you thought you knew suddenly sound incomprehensible!
It’s frustrating, I know. But once you realise a simple trick, your pronunciation will improve a lot and English will be much easier for you to understand.
Look at the following phrase…
“What are you going to do?”
Do you know how to pronounce this sentence is a natural way? How would a native speaker pronounce it?

The trick is simple. English is spoken in whole phrases, not individual words. If you want to improve your pronunciation and your listening skills, you need to learn how the sounds of words change when they are used together.
This is called connected speech.
