📊 Intermediate B1 🎲 Grammar quiz ⏱️ 5-60 mins
I have some bad news and some good news for you. The bad news is that there are hundreds of irregular verbs in English. The good news is that you don’t really need to know them all to speak English fluently.
So which irregular verbs should you learn, and how can you remember them?
Here is a list of 100 essential irregular verbs grouped together into similar groups.
Learn them in groups
Grouping irregular verbs based on similarities in their forms or patterns (e.g., past tense, past participle) can help you recognise and remember these patterns more easily. For instance, verbs with similar patterns (such as 'sing,' 'sang,' 'sung' or 'drink,' 'drank,' 'drunk') can be learned together, making it easier to remember their irregular forms.
Test yourself
Here’s a game you can use to test if you really know these verbs!
Rules:
Spin the wheel.
Say the past simple and past participle of the verb shown.
If you’re confident it was correct, remove the verb from the wheel and spin again. If you’re not sure, check the list, write the verb down on a piece of paper and spin again.
Keep going until there are no more verbs left on the wheel! 🤓
I want more practice! 🎲
