Is your career ready for the future?
You won't believe how many jobs we'll have soon
The English Workout 💪
Hi there,
Daniel Tanner here and welcome back to the The English Workout the weekly newsletter that gives you the English skills you need to succeed in your career. 💼
Let’s get started….
Something to listen to 🎧️
How many jobs have you had? How many do you think you’ll have?
Historically people have usually changed jobs around 12 times during their career. That number includes people who start working for a different company, and also those who completely change their profession.
Listen to Education and workforce strategist Michelle R. Weise giving us advice for our future careers and try to understand this first question:
How many different jobs does Michelle predict people will have in their future careers? Watch the video to find out 👀
Now listen again. Try to understand what Michelle says about the four tips (=pieces of advice) below. Can you answer the questions? Reply with your answers.
Highlight your human skills
Can you give an example of a “human skill” mentioned in the video?
Become a skills translator
How would communication skills be considered differently for a marketing role or a job as a counsellor?
Find data in discomfort
Why is job discomfort a good thing?
Get picky (become someone who chooses very carefully and selectively)
Why should you choose an employer that helps you to grow?
Tell me about your career. Have you already had a job? What would you like to do in the future? Have you changed jobs or roles often during your career? Reply to this email and let me know 📨
Something to play 🎲
Let me start with an easy question.
What is the opposite of happy? (Let me give you a clue ➡️ 🙁)
The answer, of course, is sad. These two words are called antonyms, because they have opposite meanings.
Now for something more difficult. Can you you think of an antonym for the words excited or worried? How about eloquent or unfortunate?
Test your vocabulary skills with this B2 level antonym quiz! Can you get all 20 correct?
