The English Breakfast - 8 phrasal verbs for business

The English Breakfast ☕️

Hi everyone!

Daniel Tanner here and welcome to my weekly newsletter that helps Italian professionals communicate more effectively with their English speaking colleagues and clients. 💼

Things aren’t going so well at Bright Ideas Ltd. See what’s happening below! Can you find 8 phrasal verbs* in the story?

(*What’s a phrasal verb? Phrasal verbs are verbs combined with prepositions or adverbs, creating a new meaning different from the original verb. For example, "run into" means to encounter unexpectedly, not physically running into something.)

At Bright Ideas Ltd., chaos reigned supreme. Jane, the project manager, called an urgent meeting. “We need to go over our timeline. We ran into problems with the new feature integration,” reported Tom, the tech lead.

Mr. Harrison, the CEO, burst in, looking serious. “We need to bring forward the deadline. Our competitor launches next month.”

Emily, the marketing manager, quickly did the math. “That gives us only two weeks! We need to double our efforts.”

Jane’s phone buzzed with an email notification. She glanced at it and sighed. “Our partnership with MediaCorp is going to fall through. They’re backing out last minute.”

Mr. Harrison, always the optimist, clapped his hands. “Alright, this is a setback, but we’ll manage. Emily, can you find out if any other media partners are interested?”

Emily nodded, already drafting emails to her contacts. “I’ll get on it right away.”

The next two weeks were a blur of frantic activity. The tech team pulled all-nighters, and the marketing team revamped their entire strategy. Somehow, they managed to stay on track.

On the morning of the launch, the team gathered, bleary-eyed but hopeful. Jane addressed them. “We’ve faced challenges, but we’re here. Let’s make this launch a success.”

At 9 AM, the product went live. Positive feedback started pouring in. Mr. Harrison beamed. “We did it, team! Our hard work paid off.”

Bright Ideas Ltd. celebrated, proving that with determination and teamwork, they could overcome any obstacle. Go team!
