Migliora il tuo inglese oggi - Business English For Italian Professionals
Hi there,
Welcome back to another edition of The English Breakfast — the newsletter for Italian professionals who want to feel more confident and natural using English at work.
Terrifying English 😱
Since it was Halloween a few days ago, I wanted to give you, my dear reader, a good fright.
So, here are 5 minutes of absolute horror.
Watch this video at your own risk—you have been warned…and you’re welcome in advance. 😜
P.S. I boomered it a bit and should have filmed in landscape for YouTube, but never mind. No one’s judging, right? 😆
Let me be honest
I love writing this newsletter, but if I’m honest, it sometimes feels like I’m playing frisbee on my own.
I hit send, it lands in your inbox, and the job’s done for another week.
The best educators actually know their students, so I’d like to know a bit more about you!
Here’s your task.
Reply to this email and let me know a couple of facts about you.
Where are you from? Why are you learning English? What would you like to improve the most? And of course, the most important piece of information, what’s your favourite kind of pizza? 😄
Hopefully, I’ll be able to give you more activities and content that you’ll love and things that’ll help you with your English.
…by the way, la diavola is obviously the best kind of pizza, but did you know that in English we call it a pepperoni pizza?
Imagine my surprise the first time I tried to order that in Italy and they brought me an ortolana!
Learn to Speak English More Fluently
Do you want to speak English more fluently and feel confident in conversation? The secret is simple: practice.
But if you don’t use English at work or don’t have English-speaking friends, it can be hard to find chances to speak regularly.
That’s why I’ve started The English Fluency Club - a friendly weekly group session led by me, where you’ll build confidence and learn to talk about any topic naturally.
Right now, I only have 4 spots available, and they’re open to B2-level speakers.
If you’d like to join us, you can enjoy two free sessions to see if it’s a good fit.
Just contact me here with your name, email, and the message “English Fluency Club”.
Ready to Trick or Treat Your Vocabulary?
As I already mentioned, it was Halloween a few days ago—I know it’s not such a big deal in Italy, but these moments of the year give you the chance to be exposed to specific vocabulary and learn new words.
So in this week’s article from National Geographic, “The history of trick-or-treating and how it became a Halloween tradition”, you’ll discover how the cheerful door-to-door candy run that’s popular today evolved from ancient Celtic rituals, colonial customs, and even long-lost Christmas traditions.
Here’s your mission: as you read, look for five new or interesting words. Choose words that either:
you’ve never seen before
you know but don’t feel totally confident using
or that catch your attention because they’re especially vivid or unusual.
Once you’ve found them, write:
the word
what you think it means (in English)
how you might use it in English conversation.
Then send them to me and I’ll tell you if you’ve got the usage correct 🎃
Let’s go!
All right, that’s it for today’s edition. What did you think? Reply to this email and let me know 📧
😀 It was great!
🙂 It was OK.
❌ There was nothing useful for me.
Have a great week and see you next time.
Dan
